michigan state fan gear MSUIn 1925, Michigan Agricultural College became Michigan State College and sponsored a contest to replace their "Aggies" nickname. Not liking the winning name of "The Michigan Staters", the sports editor of the Lansing State Journal chose "The Spartans" instead. The name took and in 1984, Sigma Phi Epsilon introduced the first Gruff Sparty. Super soft heathered tri blend poly cotton rayon (50 25 25) tee. Designed in Michigan by The Mitten State.
